Review of Big Trouble in Little China (1986) by Adrian Z — 26 Aug 2014
John Carpenter amusingly subverts the concept of the all-American hero by casting Kurt Russell as a truck driver who gets embroiled in a magical war in Chinatown, but proves to be far less capable than his sidekicks at everything but a huge John Wayne swagger and an deluded ego to match.
Eye popping special effects and dazzling score by John Carpenter are assets, but the plot never makes too much sense, and the kung-fu action is not a patch on the real deal.
