I remember seeing "Big Top Pee-Wee" in the theater in 1988, I enjoyed it but was a bit disappointed. "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" is a tough act to follow. The film is better than I remember it, there are plenty of fun bits.
..but it doesn't have the Burton touch that made Big Adventure so great. Even though the film launched Valeria Golino as my celebrity crush for the summer of 1988...the real star of this film is Danny Elfman's score.
It's one of his best and most overlooked.
