Review of Big Hero 6 (2014) by Mauricio A — 11 Apr 2015
Like many people who saw the trailer I was excited by what seemed to be a fresh, anime inspired, cute/funny, new Hollywood animated movie. The robot looked adorable. However once watching, I was hit my the immense tsunami of genetic tropes... Seriously, the cliches are strong in this one. So much in fact that if you have seen a few kid/hero movies ever before, then you will just know exactly who lives and who HAS to die and guess the conflicts coming about 15-30 minutes before they happen.
Animation is alright but story-wise, you will keep feeling as if the movie "could have been better" or "taken more chances with the interesting premise" every so often, specially when you see the action scenes, and the protagonist's supporting cast. Yes, the most entertaining aspect is Baymax, but his characterization in the movie is too brief to make a heroic dent on this predictable exercise. One which you will inherently know you have seen somewhere else before. Watch when you are sick and can barely make sense of the world, then you might find it amusing, otherwise pick something better.
