Review of Big Hero 6 (2014) by Alasdair B — 23 Apr 2015
Pixar has been the leading film animation studio at Disney for years, but Disney has finally made it's return. Frozen was a surprisingly beautiful film with great songs and a solid story. Disney has returned with "Big Hero 6". It's directed by Chris Williams and stars the voice talents of Ryan Potter, Scott Adsit, Daniel Henney, T. J. Miller, Jamie Chung, Damon Wayans, Jr., Génesis Rodríguez, Alan Tudyk, James Cromwell, and Maya Rudolph.
Hiro Hamada is an exuberant young man who has an intrest ininventing things. His older brother introduces him to his new robot, Baymax. He is a special healthcare robot who's job it to help others. After Hiro's brother dies in a tragic accident, Hiro and Baymax bond and become friends. While out exploring the city, Hiro and Baymax discover a mysterious masked villain who's stolen Hiro's microbots. Together, Hiro and a team of heros must fight against this masked man.
As expected, Big Hero 6 is full of beautiful animation. It's got some really likable characters, especially Baymax. Baymax is a really lovable robot. He's the best part about the film. Hiro is also a great character, and he and Baymax make a great team. The friendship built between the two is very heartwarming. It reminds me very much of Steven Spielberg's E.T. All of the characters are fun and likable, even if they aren't all memorable.
Amidst the lovable characters, the film showcases some great action. Both kids and adults will enjoy the incredibly fun action scenes. Wether it's a car chase or Baymax flying through the city, the action is all around thrilling. However, despite these positives, there are some negitives. The villain-as with most Marvel films-is really dull. I knew who it was as soon as I saw him earlier in the film. There is an attempt to throw you off and get one to think it's someone else, but it's quite obvious who it is. The ending of the film, is sadly very predictable. However, the very end of the film ends up being very sentimental, and this redeems the ending somewhat.
"Big Hero 6" is a fun, entertaining, and funny action film the whole family can enjoy. The humor can definitely be enjoyed by everyone. The story itself isn't particularly engaging for everyone. Kids will definitely enjoy it a little more than adults. However, if adults like to have fun, they will love this movie too. Despite the predictable nature of the ending, and the somewhat annoying and predictable villain, this was a really great family film. A very sentimental, and beautifully animated fun movie.
