Review of Big Hero 6 (2014) by Stanley K — 12 Jun 2015
I want to talk about the plot, it is nothing remarkable. We've heard it all before but...BH6 never falls into the trappings of a cliché. The story deals with family, loss, love, the outcast and wanting to belong to something; nothing new right? Yet all these parts are handled with such attention and care that they root this film into it's own reality.
We can believe a futuristic setting because the characters are so real and familiar in our own real lives. BH6 never tries to rush into the big set pieces and so we do spend some quality time with the gang.
Talking of set pieces, they are amazing! In typical CGI fashion the camera weaves dynamically in and out of the action with lots of humour sprinkled on top like a classic Tom and Jerry cartoon. And it's fair to say BH6 camera moves are better than the best Michael Bay cinematography!!!
One of the most complete animated movies in a long time...because it makes us care about who these characters are...not what they can do.
