Review of Big Eyes (2014) by Kilo D — 26 Dec 2014
It's the performances that make Tim Burton's latest, "Big Eyes", entertaining even when the script feels incomplete--Adam's does her best (fashioned like a Hitchcockian blonde) in giving Margaret Keane a life, for the script leaves the character nearly as hollow as the eyes that she paints.
Nevertheless, a fast pace and lovely cinematography make this one of Burton's most enjoyable movies in over a decade and its style, like a manic Douglas Sirk picture, is enough to warrant further viewings.
Still, the inner life of Mrs. Keane remains a mystery and it's a mystery that does not serve Mr. Burton's story.
