Review of Big Eyes (2014) by Martin B — 06 Jan 2015
This movie is all about expression, in its many splendid forms. To name a few: the expression of art, of the zeitgeist moment in time in which the story played out, of the director trying something new (this must be his first with just humans being human since Big Fish - a forgotten, but wonderful, movie), of the protagonist actors' range from introvert to extrovert.
On the latter point, Amy Adams deserves an Academy Award just for existing. Her expressiveness while playing a subdued character is something to behold. As for Weitz, he's even more incredible than her, showing multiple hues of the qualities and detriments that come with owning the room you walk into.
It was a very different movie, and not overly long. I enjoyed it very much, and confirmed, once again, that truth is so much more interesting to read about and to see on screen. It is stranger than fiction, and far more entertaining.
