Review of Big Eyes (2014) by Steven B — 22 Jan 2015

Only four of us Old Geezers Who Go To The Matinee Alone showed up and the other three were ladies of a certain age. This movie, kind of unusual for Tim Burton, is a lot about women in the 1950s and 1960s and the ladies were often agreeing with the message.

I remember when the Keanes came on the scene; there for a bit you saw the 'waifs' with the big eyes everywhere. But they lacked the commentary of Andy Warhol and other 'pop' artists and were mainly, in the end, highly commercial.

When the unexpected truth come out (no spoilers here) everyone was more relieved than surprised. Amy Adams is fast becoming one of my favorite actors and she really delivers here. Christoph Waltz is as always wonderful, if a bit over the top in this role.

I liked this and can recommend it; no big action scenes or such, but a good movie.
