Review of Big Eyes (2014) by Joe I — 20 May 2015

First and foremost I am a Tim Burton Fan. In that, I get it. I get the distaste for his films and in his style. I for one can say even I have been getting a little tired of his current trend of over commercialized genre style seen in the past few years.

With this film, I was hoping for something to go up there with the likes of Big Fish rather than Dark Shadows. This film was the right step to getting the magic back from Burton in at least the eyes of the public, no pun intended.

It is a lot more down to earth with that classic Burton twist but does explore more human element to it. The best way I can sum up this vision is a look back at the past but seeing how things have and have not changed.

The story itself is a good one to be shared. The examination of what truly makes an artist intrigues me immensely and is handled in my opinion very well. The cast, most focus on Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams, know what they saw in these roles and did what they do best with them.

Honestly, even Burton at his worst is going to have something that I find well done. If you are a fan, check it out. If you are not a fan, I suggest maybe checking at least this one out and develop your own opinion.
