Review of Big Eyes (2014) by Jon C — 29 Dec 2014
Outstanding performances from both Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz.
A story about the power of creativity and how much a rift it can cause in the art world.
Margaret made paintings about children with big eyes being 'the windows to the souls', yet after she marries another successful painter he starts to take credit for her work.
Walter then thrives on her paintings making it look like he's successful since women's artwork wasn't appreciated during the 1950's.
It's even more heartbreaking that the public eye is completely unaware of who the real artist is.
Tim Burton makes a movie that's a big change from his usual fare and it shows.
Margaret loves her paintings and she has to put up with living behind Walter's shadows.
There's even some cool imagery reminding her that this is her creation and she should take it back.
The final part of the film is where things boil down as well.
The rest of the cast members from Danny Huston to Terence Stamp to Jason Schwartzman to Krysten Ritter help the movie, too.
The art world is a complicated affair; people buy art because it's there or they want something that touches them.
A solid movie.
