Review of Big Daddy (1999) by Jason V — 20 Apr 2012
Of all his early movies, I think Big Daddy has the most heart and tends to be the most level-headed. It's heart is certainly in the right place after gross-a-thons in Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison even if the laughs don't come every other second.
There are situations and language some audiences will object to, but this is Sandler starting to be more mature. The supporting characters are all one dimensional, relying on a single trait to define them.
The finale delves into the absurd, but that's alright. Big Daddy runs just quick enough with the right amount of schmaltz mixed with the humor to keep the audience interested.
