Review of Big Bully (1996) by Jordan W — 04 Apr 2011
You can tell just from the cast and the poster that this film isn't going to be anything special, but sometimes the right amount of disarming goes a long way. No, it's not great, but does it want to be? Love it or hate it, the plotting it tight enough to keep things moving at a brisk pace and the correct oddball actors were chosen for the bit parts, making the audience more likely to grin with subconscious approval than groan at it for trying too hard.
It does get unexpectedly dark toward the end, but so what? If your expectations are in the basement and you don't go in wanting to hate it, you won't. It may be faint praise, but it's all in your attitude.
I chose to emphasize the latter.
