Review of Big Bang Love, Juvenile A (2006) by Alyssa N — 26 Jan 2008
Miike, the director himself, is the first to admit that this film is not for everyone, and I agree. This homoerotic prison drama is stylized, theatrical, and probably more surreal than anything Miike has done in the past, but if you have the patience to piece it together while putting up with the sometimes agonizingly slow pacing, your rewards will be great.
Everything about this movie is beautiful, from the purity of the boys' love to the stunning visuals of the Mayan pyramid and butterflies. However, it is still the story itself that is most powerful, and the whole cast pulls it off flawlessly.
