Review of Big Bad Wolves (2013) by Elliot F — 23 Apr 2014
Or the One With The Blowtorch...
A stylish, gruesome, and wickedly comedic film about torture and our convictions. This movie was something to stare out, and I'm not just talking about the brutal acts of violence on screen. The cinematography is spot on, and not only is it beautiful, but it perfectly matches the tone set by the directors.
I can see why Tarantino loves this film, it's got a dark sense of humor, and dishes it out in some pretty terrifying moments. And that's part of what makes this film so great. You laugh with the torturers, and then you wonder if you should have. Are we really that different from these men?
Big Bad Wolves makes you think twice about what's happening on screen, but it never preaches at you. And it always puts story first, so that your enjoyment of the film is never compromised for its message. But never be fooled, the film has something to say, and it says it well.
A horror comedy that can make you think twice about revenge and foreign policy is something to marvel at, and Big Bad Wolves is worth the time.
