Review of Big Ass Spider! (2013) by Robert H — 23 Oct 2013
Big Ass Spider! brings about a concept that we normally only see from The Asylum and Syfy channel these days and on many levels, it's very comparable. The name truly gives away the kind of film this is going to be so fans of the genre should know exactly what they're getting into.
The CG spider though at times looks decent, mostly looks cheesy and out of place. Where the film shines is in the story and the acting. Well above what you normally find in similar creature features, Big Ass Spider! actually has a charm about it and the indications of skill uncommon with this type of film.
The comedy portion of the film is quite solid at the start but slowly dies out until it's almost non-existant. I truly would have liked the film to have been able to keep the laughs coming throughout.
With better comedic value and better CG, Big Ass Spider! could have been the creature feature we've been needing for a long time... for those needing creature features of course.
