Review of Big (1988) by Andy G — 22 Nov 2009
A simple concept executed to near perfection, Big is a movie that I always flip to for a little bit whenever it shows on TV, which is quite often. It provides arguably my favorite Tom Hanks performance: the clueless, obliviously awkward 13 year old stuck in a grown man's body. His performance as a big little kid seeps into the rest of the movie, which has an idiot innocence missing in most films. Witnessing Elizabeth Perkins' sexual hints go unnoticed and Heart & Soul/Chopsticks at F.A.O. Schwartz are scenes I have yet to get tired of. My only problem with it is that the last twenty minutes always feel rushed. But even with that flaw, Big is one of the all-time modern day fantasy movies. The look and feel of the entire film just shouts out typical 1980s movie... and it still works. Now that's a good movie.
"Okay... but I get to be on top!".
