Review of Big (1988) by David F — 07 Mar 2014
A simple premise shows great potential thanks to Tom Hank's performance, solidifying his career as a serio-comic leading man. Definitely meant as a fantasy (the darker elements concerning a missing or kidnapped boy are deftly avoided), it provides a lot of good honest laughs by contrasting the jerky awkwardness, naivete and innocence of adolescence against the mean backstabbing of the so-called 'adult' world.
Definitely rides on a lot of charm, and Elizabeth Perkins is great.
