Review of Big (1988) by Mike A — 30 Nov 2009
Hanks is appealing in this very popular 80's comedy, and the premise of a boy in a man's body running a major corporation is an amusing one. It is the message of the movie that is self-conscious and queasy - being a child is good.
This may not be so bad if the movie was about reclaiming childhood innocence, but this movie's view of childhood is playing with endless toys in a smug and annoying manner. This is not a movie about the perils of being an adult; it is about the joys of being small, and the joys seem unappealing.
