Review of Big (1988) by Nicole W — 21 Feb 2010
Sometimes in cinema, but not often, being simple, sweet, and funny can do wonders for an audience. "Big" is a prime example of a movie just trying to have fun, and pulling it off very well.
Josh Baskin is a boy, who just doesn't seem to be happy with himself. He thinks he is too short. He gets embaressed in front of the girl he likes, because he is too short to ride a roller coaster. He makes a wish to this unknown arcade game...and he becomes Tom Hanks over night. Quite interesting indeed. The rest of the film is Tom Hanks learning what it is like to be an adult, and seeing the wonders of New York.
The film is fun to watch, because it's just a feel good movie. Most of the cinematography and constant imput of soundtrack, let's the viewer know that this is supposed to be a cheery movie. It's kind of cheesy, and predictable, but it's still entertaining.
Tom Hanks does a wonderful job at being a kid. I think that the mannerisms he does, and some of the lines that he speaks, are very similar to a boys. I just thought he was very believable, and that's exactly what he had to be. So good job their.
Not much else is to say about "Big." It's kind of an interesting concept, and it was handled in a simple fashion, which actually payed off. It's cheesy, and corny, but it's entertaining.
