Review of Big (1988) by Silabhakta L — 05 Mar 2010
"Big" is by far one of the smartest and funniest comedies I have ever watched. It combines a smart script, a talented cast and great comedy scenes.
Big starts off with a young thirteen year-old boy who has a crush on a girl. The girl apparently seems to take interest on bigger boys, so they young boy wishes to be big to a carnival machine. And, of course, he turns big the next day.
From that moment on, Tom Hanks takes over as the body of young, thirteen year-old Josh Baskin. He takes on the lead role wonderfully and doesn't seem to struggle at all. Tom Hanks is great as a thirteen year-old boy. The rest of the cast is also great, especially Josh's best friend, Billy.
The comedy doesn't try to hard and the script is very smart. I laughed tirelessly throughout the entire film. The ending of the film left me satisfied and the romance was incredibly amusing.
It's hard to find a single flaw in this movie. It showcases one of Tom Hanks best performances in his career. The direction by Penny Marshall worked well with the cast and script, thus making Big a really funny and smart movie.
