Review of Big (1988) by Yo-Yo A — 26 Sep 2010
Like most kids, you're never content with what you have. As a kid, you can't wait to become big as you'll then be able to drive a car, go on all the roller coasters and do other meaningless stuff.
As a kid, you don't understand that your best and happiest years will end as soon as you hit puberty. Josh Baskin (Tom Hanks) wishes to become big. Unfortunately for him his wish becomes true and he must leave his family and enter the real world and take responsibility.
One thing leads to another and he becomes an important member of a toy making company and has a serious relationship with a colleague. This film is funny and heartwarming as Hanks gives a great performance as a grownup who hasn't grown up yet.
Other than his performance this film isn't anything special except for the lovely scene with him and his boss playing chopsticks on a massive piano. Josh soon realises being big isn't as great as he thought it'd be as he must keep his boss, girlfriend (who's kinda sick if you think about it), friend and family happy.
A typical eighties family film with a bad soundtrack, cheesy script but great performances.
