Review of Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970) by Cem Ü — 09 Dec 2007
Funniest counterculture/cult fil I have seen in a long time. Russ Meyers' usual trademark characters are all here, the dope fiends, the bimbos, the bizarre woman who looks like a swan-hag, peyote sessions ending with superwoman screaming "come taste the black sperm of my vengeance":) The more I watched the more I thought I had find the inspiration for many of the 70s Turkish YeÅ?ilçam dramas, minus the drugs and explicit sex of course.
surprisingly, meyer's promiscuity in certain matters is justified/negated/disclosed with a sequence of republican values spills out of the narrator while an assessment of the characters morals tie all the licentiousness the film inhabits.
Incredibly funny, ludicrous, freaky and a great sort-of-documentary about the LA showbiz of the 70s!!
