Review of Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970) by ??Tt ? — 22 Dec 2009
This is quite possibly the greatest bad film of all time. I can't explain it, I can't describe it. I can't articulate in words exactly why you need to see this film. Watch it, you will be glad you did.
Let's see, the only notable people who survived this film (in real life, that is) were its screenwriter Roger Ebert (yes, that one) and supporting actor Charles Napier (The Blues Brothers, Austin Powers). I guess you can count Russ Meyer, who probably went on to make plenty more movies with big, um, titles. And then there's Dolly Read, who married Dick Martin (Laugh In) and had a long career ahead of her with Playboy Bunny reunions and Match Game.
An interesting note to this film is that the swinging shindig that "Z-man" Eddie Barzell throws was the source for Austin Powers' mantra "This is my happening and it freaks me out!".
