Review of Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970) by Paul S — 03 Jan 2010

What the hell was that? I think I just finished watching a film, but I?m not for certain. I would call Beyond the Valley of the Dolls a drama, yet there?s one too many severed heads for that category. Maybe it?s a chick flick since it sometimes follows the girl meets-loses-gets boy, but I think after the 50th nude body BVD loses the chick flick appeal.

There?s way too much bat-shit crazy dialogue for it to be considered a musical even though many full-length songs played out by the actors scatter the film. Hmmm? I don?t know what the hell it is, but if you?re in the mood for something different, hippie, and bizarre; BVD is totally not unwatchable.
