Review of Beyond the Sea (2004) by Levi W — 01 Feb 2008
This puts some freshness into the biopic genre. There are things Spacey had the balls to do with this film that others would not have made, for instance, casting himself to play Bobby Darin once he reaches the age of 20.
The movie is also as much a musical as it is a biopic, unlike those that feature music but without any sort of context regarding plot. Interestingly, Spacey does all of his own dancing and singing. His performance is great and the film really puts a nice twist on the story of Bobby Darin.
