Review of Beyond the Sea (2004) by Sean K — 14 Jun 2008
Only thing that kept this movie from above a four star rating for me was a 45 minute section where the movie decided to get boring and slow down. To give them credit, this was the time in Bobby's life that he was at rock bottom.
He lost his will to be who he was; and it stood out in the film. This movie was extremely entertaining, and one of Spacey's best roles. He does all the singing, which is near perfect, and the acting, well, I dont need to comment on Spacey's acting haha.
Bosworth was decent, although nothing special; Goodman did a fine job as the manager but the only character in this movie with enough importance to matter was Mr. Darin. Thoroughly loved this film because I got to see my favorite actor play his dream role.
He also wrote, directed, and produced this movie. Unbelievable job and I think this film should have and could have gotten more credit. I loved the storytelling technique with the young Bobby to show his personality and his view on life.
Genius and used very well. Don't know what else to say cept for "Splish splash...".
