Review of Beyond the Reach (2014) by August C — 26 Oct 2016
It is a chase story in the desert based on the book 'Deathwatch'. A ruthless rich trophy hunter (Michael Douglas) hires a young guide to help him hunt a Big Horn in the vast desert scrubland. He thinks he spots one on the ridge ahead and shoots.
But he has shot a local prospector. What to do? He decides to set it up to look like the guide did it and then forces the guide to walk barefoot and shirtless in the desert while he watches on - the idea being to kill him without shooting.
And so the chase begins. The guide knows the secret nooks and crannies of the desert and just about keeps ahead. The story is full of twists and turns, however I think there are one too many twists so by the end it is just unconvincing.
The 'dream' sequences towards the end are just annoying because its just an unimaginative 'cheat' to fork the storyline then jump back a step.
