(1979) Beyond The Poseidon Adventure.
ADVENTURE/ ACTION/ DRAMA.
A continuation of where the previous "Poseidon Adventure" left off, but from a whole new cast of characters. Apparently, after the 1972 version became a massive hit, studios wanted to know whether they can do it again by getting the author, Paul Gallico to come up with a sequel. And by the time the novel was done, the movie was made almost immediately. It centers on Captain Mike Turner (Michael Caine) along with his partner, Wilbur Hubbard (Karl Malden) and passenger, Celeste Whitman (Sally Field) stumbling onto the 'Poseidon' the exact same area where some of the passengers from the previous movie were saved. They're then confronted with Captain Stefan Svevo (Telly Savalas) who has different intentions than what he was relaying. Captain Mike Turner first intentions was to seek for suspected treasure, but what he ended up doing instead was trying to save some more stranded and abandoned passengers. What the movie fail to explain was, why hasn't the government send any coast guards or coast guard planes to seek for anymore possible survivors? Is Captain Stefan Svevo the best candidate to look for more survivors? It is these questions and more which is why I am unable to get involved in the film as well as the ridiculous subplots involving plutonium.
2 out of 4 stars.
