Review of Beyond the Mind's Eye (1992) by Bonnie A — 20 Jul 2012
The goal of computer animation was to advance it to the point where it could convincingly replicate the real world, the mundane. It has achieved that and is much preferred by most over early, primitive CGI.
What I think makes early CG animation special, however, is that because the technology didn't exist for realisic animation, only fantastic and thus more imaginative animation could be created. Videos like this celebrate such experimental creativity, as well as set it to great music, in this case from the awesome Jan Hammer.
