Review of Beyond Re-Animator (2003) by Kevin M — 09 Jan 2010
About 15 years after the previous Re-Animator installment, 'Beyond' is too weak a final project to have dusted off this venerable horror legacy for. It has its moments of amusing shock but nothing that is really and truly inspired or innovative, whereas the first two films were chock full of ideas.
Head and shoulders above your average straight to video horror release, the film is entertaining enough, just not particularly memorable. It's nice seeing Jeffrey Combs playing Dr. West again, but I think I'd have preferred that they'd left the 'franchise' alone if this was the best they could come up with.
The DVD is more worthwhile for a hilariously absurd tie-in trashy euro-pop-dance music video than for the movie itself.
