Review of Beyond Borders (2003) by Sean S — 13 Nov 2007
If you gonna look at what critics had to say about the movie, you'll notice that it either got high praise or no praise at all. I really was not in the mood for a love story set against a war torn country background etc....whatever (pearl harbor). It stars Angelina Jolie, Clive Owen and surprisingly, various South African actors which you'll be famous with from shows like 7de Laan and Isidingo. Having no expectations at all for this one, I was quite moved by various scenes involving these 3rd world countries. The love story also does not take up too much screen time which was good. Emotionally I was not really convinced by the two main characters, but more by their surroundings. The South African cast was good, story interesting enough and some really bad ass villians (the scene featuring a baby playing with a grenade was intense).
Nice ending, unexpected.
