Will Ferrell isn't as superfluous and overdone as has been in other movies -- by much. Steve Carrell would have made a so much better Jack / Darrin (although he did well as Uncle Abner) but Nicole Kidman is spot on as Samantha. The plot is mediocre... Allthough with the correct cast a nowhere plot can be great (example Seinfeld and The Office).
Bottom line: switch Ferrell with Carrell and the movie goes from 2 to 4 stars.
