Review of Beverly Hills Cop III (1994) by Shane D — 13 Apr 2011
Eddie Murphy can carry a film. Even a bad one. The BHC franchise is a fine example the trajectory Murphyâ(TM)s career took through the 80s and 90s. The first film is edgy, fast and cool. The second, Murphy postures, its a little overblown, but still carries a punch.
The third, relies on old tricks, is dumbed down and is flaccid. Having said that, there are flickers when Axelâ(TM)s theme kicks in on the soundtrack and Murphy is getting up to his old hi-jinx that you start to feel like itâ(TM)s the Axel Foley of old.
..plus Judge Reinhold is always fun to watch...well in these films at least. But then, things get wacky and it all gets a little Lethal Weapon 3. The news that they are making a fourth instalment still interests as a modern, gritty sequel would be welcome.
