Review of Beverly Hills Cop III (1994) by Tom R — 10 Jun 2011
John Landis and Eddie Murphy... how did this talented duo make such an awful sequel on a promising franchise? Why isn't this movie funny? Beverly Hills Cop 3 butchers its characters and has a questionable screenplay, taking Axle Foley to an amusement park.
It has one of the most odd cameos I've ever seen in a movie (George Lucas... I know Landis likes to put directors in cameos, but this is just confusing) and has an extended action sequence where Foley climbs a ride to save two children which feels like it belongs in a Jackie Chan movie.
In fact, the action sequences are pretty substandard and the comedy sequences are dull, which is most disappointing coming from the guy who directed The Blues Brothers. Foley isn't funny, Taggart is gone, Rosewood isn't cool, and Jerry Bruckheimer isn't producing.
.. this isn't really a Beverly Hills Cop movie, is it? Just hope it is not the last in the franchise, because it's a pretty miserable way to end the series.
