Review of Beverly Hills Cop (1984) by Shane D — 19 Feb 2011
Would you believe, being an Eddie Murphy fan, the first Beverly Hills Cop I watched in its entirety was the paltry third sequel. Thats herecy I know. So sitting down to rewatch all three films in their proper sequence, it's nice to be reminded about Eddie Murphy once having charm and raw magnetism on screen.
This really isn't even his funniest film, but it is definitely where he is at his best (no fat suits in sight). Whats great about watching this now (along with its 80s distant cousin Lethal Weapon) is that its a quintessential 80s "Faltermeyer" buddy-cop classic.
Its trim, tidy, contains plenty of "bad-guy overacting" and plenty of chances for Axel Foley to wink to the audience. Its just well worth revisiting.
