Review of Beverly Hills Cop (1984) by Brett C — 03 Oct 2014
Review In A Nutshell:
It was clear from the first 10 minutes that I was not going to love Beverly Hills Cop, but I hoped that it was able to deliver enough that it wouldn't reach to a level of dreadful. The film ultimately succeeds in maintaining my attention and be minimally engaged with its theme of culture shock, stating that it is sometimes more effective in gaining results if one does not always adhere to the strict protocols and guidelines of the system. The film features an entertaining protagonist that was able to balance both seriousness and hilarity quite well, though sadly he was not matched with a villain that could reach the potential that our central character was able to bring. The central character matches the film's tone, filling the atmosphere with a layer of seriousness but also with a dash of comedy to relieve audiences when moments get too heavy. If I watched this film when I was younger, then I probably would have adored this film; but as of now I am simply just looking for something more.
