Review of Between Two Ferns: The Movie (2019) by Afm185 — 21 Jun 2020
I really, really like the Internet series. So I was excited for this. I didn’t know what to expect, but I am not disappointed. I’m just gonna outright say it I don’t even know if I’ve laughed more times in a movie.
As a comedy, this movie works through and through. Not a single joke was bad (not all of em landed, but you can’t expect them all to honestly). There are times when it tries to get dramatic (sorta) though and it just does not work at all.
I didn’t care about any of the characters, and there was character development I guess but I didn’t really care aside from one piece of it. The story was fine and all, like it was basically just in service of having the interviews, which is exactly what I wanted.
But when it focuses on the story it loses me a bit. I think maybe it would’ve been better if Zach really is just kind of a dickhead instead of this guy hoping to make it big in Hollywood. And while I said I wasn’t disappointed in the overall product, I want this movie to be longer.
I don’t mean longer story-wise, but the interviews just weren’t long enough at all. Some were literally like thirty seconds and they’re the best parts of the movie. There are soooooo many great cameos (if you could really call it that).
Actors I really like show up and they don’t use em all enough. I hope they release uncut versions of each of the interviews, or have each of them be released at the length of the regular internet series.
I actually kinda love this movie though it was extremely enjoyable.
