Review of Better Than Chocolate (2011) by Lisa T — 07 Nov 2007
OK, I love this movie. It's Canadian, it's funny, it's sexy, it's relevant and I love the Vancouver locations. Did I mention the rather attractive lead characters, Maggie (Karyn Dwyer) and Kim (Christina Cox) do make it super-pleasant to watch? Love the other quirky, fun stories we see: Peter Outerbridge as Judy was amazing - how many actors could have brought that level of realism to trans Judy, without making her a joke/too campy? Writer Ann-Marie MacDonald is a hoot as Frances, owner of a bookstore who is suffering the often-ridiculous censorship of Canada Customs (Little Sisters, anyone?). Interspersed are some fun, visually appealing musical numbers - a little something in this movie for everyone.
Highly recommended.
