Review of Better Off Dead... (1985) by Craig M — 16 May 2008
Far superior to Savage Steve Holland's 'One Crazy Summer' (which nevertheless has its own little pay offs) 'Better Off Dead' is amazing for its time, if for no other reason than it bravely experiments with such different types of animation - from stop-motion to cel - and puppetry, seamlessly incorporating them into its wacky narrative.
Although time has not been kind to it, the film is still funny in an oddball way, and is perhaps even more surreal, inventive and ingenious for today's audience's than ever.
