After Ferris Bueller and Heathers, this is my favorite of all the 1980s teen movies. Lane Meyer - the cynical, sardonic, obsessive character played by John Cusack - makes you feel his pain as he suffers through losing his girlfriend, growing up in a dysfunctional family, and is repeatedly humiliated by other supporting charachters including the paperboy and his younger brother.
And all the while, you laugh hysterically as he goes through his suffering. Definitely darker than the typical 80s teen-comedy.
