Review of Better Off Dead... (1985) by Adrian Z — 24 Sep 2011
3 - Off beat comedy, clearly lacks focus and consistency, but offers up some good gags once it warms up. When the John Hughes style teen romantic comedy element kicks in, though, it begins to loose steam and even ends up on the wrong side of conventional.
In any case, teenaged John Cusack is a charismatic lead who manages to carry the movie well. Kim Darby, as his kooky mother, is often hilarious.
