Review of Betsy's Wedding (1990) by Stephen M — 20 Mar 2008
It has to be said: I don't care who the star of a movie is - if Madeline Kahn is in it, it is a Madeline Kahn movie. That's all.
Her role as the mother of the bride is not as big as some of the others in this picture but every frame she has is a treasure, an absolute treasure.
The comedy of the movie is very hit or miss at times but I still love this film; I love Alda's comedy - I get it. Kahn is heavenly, Catherine O'Hara is as good as she ever is (this is one of my favourites of hers), Ally Sheedy is WONDERFUL in a shy, not at all showy role, Anthony LaPaglia has never been more charming, Molly Ringwald and Dylan Walsh are adorable and the late Bibi Besch is understatedly divine.
I dare you not to like it.
