Review of Best Worst Movie (2009) by Chris H — 29 Jul 2010
While I don't consider it the worst film ever made (in fact as the film attests it is very watchably bad and the level of poor quality actually makes it a fun viewing), it is certainly in the top 10, and this documentary in essence is really a dissection of the phenomenon that can grow around truly bad films.
It is really fascinating to see how the actors in the film find acceptance by fans of their terrible acting, and how many people feel a personal connection to a film that they unequivocally know is of very substandard quality.
People make video games, stage plays, and hold screenings championing the movies crappiness. The documentary is hilarious, but it manages to be surprisingly endearing as well. The people involved with the film are likeable, and the fact that they embrace their fame with humor and aren't rude about them makes them quite loveable.
