Review of Best Worst Movie (2009) by Nick O — 28 Jul 2012
"Troll 2" is far from the worst movie ever made. It's not very good, but it never feels like a bunch of false crap strewn together and adds up to nothing. At least it's genuine. So's "Best Worst Movie", a documentary made not in defense, but in celebration.
Director Michael Stephenson scores big in differentiating the two in cuing in on George Hardy, the dad in "Troll 2" turned suburban dentist, an often awestruck dude who gets lost in the heat of all the fanboy cult the movie's garnered over its twenty-plus years before coming up for air in the bittersweet final act.
But I never felt my sense of irony once tingle. To a happy few, "Troll 2" is the real deal. And it's only a band of brothers who can so totally embrace it.
