Review of Best in Show (2000) by Brandon B — 12 Mar 2008
BEST IN SHOW (2000).
Directed by Christopbher Guest.
Starring Catherine O'Hara, Parker Posey, Fred WillardIn this mockumentary by Christopher Guest, a bunch of people are getting ready to participate in a dog show, trying to win the grand prize. There is a gay couple. A stupid blonde rich Anna Nicole Smith girl kinda type with her lesbian trainer. A southerner. A sex-crazed couple obssessed with their dog, acting with it just like it was an actual human. And a couple made of a whore, not in job but in mind and past and a two-left feeted geek. We follow them around and its quite funny.Fred Willard is the commentator of the show and he comes up with such dumbness, its definately hilarious. Jane Lynch as the lesbian trainer is very good, not funny, but she gives a solid plausible performance. Larry Miler is a friend of the whore, played by Catherine O'Hara, and he is funny as well. Her geeky husband is Eugene Levy, who cowrote the film and he is just as good as himself. Parker Poser is hysterical as the lady obssessed with her dog and everybody else in the cast is simply good. Of course. They are used to play together. The subject is pretty funny, showing behind the scenes of dog shows isnt the first thing you might think off when you want to write a film, but it fits perfectly to welcome all those quirky character. Definately hilarious.
