Review of Best in Show (2000) by Claudia B — 28 Dec 2010
I don't know how many times I've seen "Best in Show", but every time I watch it, it always has me rolling on the floor laughing. This is just a unique comedy that keeps it's laughs going and going, thanks to the great improv troupe which is it's cast members.
Shot in a mockumentary style, the movie looks at competitors for a huge dog show known as the Mayflower. As we get to know these people, we wonder who should be the ones that should learn how to sit or play fetch.
All I can really say about this movie is that it is super funny. The actors of this movie really know how to make us laugh using their talents of improv by not being so over the top with their characters. They play them straightforward like a typical character, but they make them so hilarious, you'll want to pause the movie to catch a gasp of breath.
Christopher Guest is arguably the king of making movies like this. It's easy to tell a lot of the inspiration of "This is Spinal Tap" was used to help make a movie like this, with the mockumentary style and sly comedy.
Being a dog lover, I already knew I was going to have at least some respect for the movie, but watching it all the way through is worth begging for a bone. No matter how many times you see it, "Best in Show" will always have you wag your tale with gut-busting laughs.
