Review of Best in Show (2000) by A.d. O — 21 Nov 2011
This movie is pretty damn hilarious with an absolutely tremendous cast, highlighted by an insane performance, if you can even call it that when a lot of the dialogue is improvised, by Fred Ward. The fact that a lot of the movie is improvised helps add a believable dimension to these completely eccentric characters.
Sure, they exist in their own surreal and absurd universe, but their characters feel wholly unique and feel like they're extensions of the actors playing them. So yes, this movie is absolutely hilarious with some incredibly laugh out loud moments.
The movie is indeed very satirical of the eccentric aspects of people who do dog shows and in a lot of ways they do make fun of them a lot, but it never feels mean spirited in any way. It's just people that take their love of dogs too far sometimes.
So anyway, this is an excellent comedy with a fantastic cast. It's a win of a movie all the way around.
