Review of Best in Show (2000) by Paul W — 25 Apr 2013
"Best in Show" is part of a hilarious series of 'mockumentaries' put together by Christopher Guest. All of these movies work brilliantly, putting together clever scripting, imaginative characters and a top notch collection of comedic talent that farcically skewers a less than obvious target.
A key part of the formula is also a true love for the subject matter. These parodies aren't made because Guest & Co. look down their nose at folk music, community theater, or in this case, dog shows, but rather because these forums offer real opportunity for examining the ongoing human comedy of life through their own peculiarly fractured lens.
