Review of Berserk! (1967) by Brody M — 25 Aug 2010
Joan is the fabulously named Monica Rivers (seriously, I feel as if all my Barbies would have worn that name with pride), owner and ringmaster of a traveling circus. Poor Joan, in her next to last film, looks damn good in her own clothes (she used her personal wardrobe to save budget) and her Edith Head-designed fishnets and leotard, but being no spring chicken is lit (or should I say not lit) with a giant shadow across her neck in EVERY SCENE.
Poor Joan, the whole thing is beneath her, gruesome melodrama. But that being said, it's still a hoot to watch, with weird, "artsy" camera shots, gorgeous color, bad acting (love Diana Dors, cockney slattern), and an overly long poodle routine.
My 35th of 81 Joan movies.
