Review of Berlin Syndrome (2017) by Chris F — 31 May 2017
Berlin Syndrome is a very disappointing film. Teresa Palmer is good in her role. Max Riemelt is also very good in his role. They both are the best things in the film. The film is nearly two hours long.
The movie could've been an hour and a half. The pacing is horrible. The movie moves at an unrelentingly slow pace. You get bored very easily. The movie has some tense moments, but not enough. The movie is very dull and uninteresting.
While it is well made, it does nothing to stick out from other movies similar in nature. The film focuses too much on the kidnapper, and it gets boring fast. The film also suffers from a dumb ending that feels detached from the rest of the film.
It feels like an overly dramatic Hollywood-stylized version of an ending. Overall, I was highly disappointed in this movie. I had high hopes, but even great performances couldn't save this dull slog of a film.
